The CIRAIG’s research activities are divided between three research chairs: the International Life Cycle Chair, the Chair on Advanced Waste Recovery (CRVMR), and the Chair in Sustainable Consumption. All three chairs are led by professors from Polytechnique Montreal and the School of Management from UQÀM.
The ILC Chair conducts leading edge, interdisciplinary life cycle research and develops results-oriented tools on complex and critical sustainability issues in collaboration with its partners to meet their needs.
The Chair in Advanced Waste Recovery aims to develop and determine which solutions should be implemented to most efficiently recover waste, while maintaining a vision of circular economy and of reducing negative impacts on the environment, society and economy.

The CIRAIG’s main research unit, the International Life Cycle Chair (ILC Chair), is a leading reference in the field of sustainable tools and has made remarkable scientific achievements during its first (2007-2011) and second (2012-2016) mandates which were conducted with international partners from key sectors of the economy, including energy, transportation, telecommunications, metals, chemical products, retail, food, aerospace, waste management, pulp and paper and financial services.
Now on its third mandate, the ILC Chair conducts leading edge, interdisciplinary life cycle research and develops results-oriented tools on complex and critical sustainability issues in collaboration with its partners to meet their needs.
Its scientific research program hence resolutely takes into account environmental and social LCA as strategic decision-making support tools and value creation.
With an annual budget of over 1M$, the Chair brings together nine industrial partners: ArcelorMittal, Hydro-Québec, LVMH, Michelin, Nestlé, Optel, Solvay, Total and Umicore.
