It\u00a0builds on a\u00a0<strong>midpoint-damage LCIA framework<\/strong>\u00a0with four distinct\u00a0complementary viewpoints:\u00a0midpoint impacts, damage impacts, damages on human health and ecosystem quality, and damages on water and carbon areas of concern.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IMPACT World+ Version 2.0 &#8211;\u00a0Renewed Operationalization<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Through the complete redesigning of the operationalization of IW+, version 2.0 features a better homogeneity between impact indicators as well as between the IW+ <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/s11367-019-01583-0\">scientific article<\/a> and its operationalization.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Redesigned operationalization:\u00a0<\/strong>An automated way was implemented to compute the characterization factors (CFs) into files compatible with various LCA software\u00a0and databases, in accordance with the method description in the <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/s11367-019-01583-0\">article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Update of characterization factors:\u00a0<\/strong>The impacts were classified into short term (0-100 years) and long term (over 100 years) in a more homogeneous manner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Specific updates include:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>for\u00a0<em>Marine eutrophication<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; some new air emissions were characterized;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>for\u00a0<em>Ionizing radiations<\/em>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0new substances and compartments were accounted for, and new flows were characterized;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>for toxicity impact categories &#8211;\u00a0CFs for metal emissions into groundwater sub-compartments were set to zero;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>for water impact categories &#8211; regionalized CFs were added for new sub-regions covered in LCA databases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IMPACT World+ Version 2.0.1 &#8211;\u00a0Tailored Interpretation Levels<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Version 2.0.1 introduces a nuanced approach to interpretation and updated characterization factors for climate change (midpoint).<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Three versions of IW+ are now available for different levels of interpretation:<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0 \u2022 the\u00a0<em>Footprint<\/em>\u00a0version (a simplified version for practitioners with a lower level of expertise in LCA);<br \/>\u00a0 \u2022 the\u00a0<em>Expert<\/em>\u00a0version (for experienced users interested in the damage level);<br \/>\u00a0 \u2022 the\u00a0<em>Midpoint<\/em>\u00a0version\u00a0(for experienced users interested in the midpoint level).<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Update of characterization factors:\u00a0<\/strong>Values from the up-to-date IPCC\u00a0Sixth Assessment\u00a0Report\u00a0were incorporated into the midpoint characterization factors for climate change\u00a0and a CF for unspecified land was integrated for the land occupation and transformation indicators.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to get started?<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Both IMPACT World+ Versions 2.0 and 2.0.1 are available for download on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.impactworldplus.org\/download\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our website<\/a>\u00a0as files directly usable in LCA software\u00a0(openLCA, SimaPro, brightway2) or with databases (ecoinvent, Exiobase).
